Privacy Notice for the International Partnership on MPAs, Biodiversity & Climate Change
Joint Nature Conservation Committee (JNCC) is providing you with this information so you know how we collect personal data (information) about you, what we do with it and why. This document – our International Partnership on MPAs, Biodiversity & Climate Change privacy notice – will tell you about our processing and about the rights you have in relation to how we use your data. It will also provide you with the details of who to contact if you have any questions or concerns.
Who are we?
The International Partnership on MPAs, Biodiversity and Climate Change (the Partnership) comprise of a consortium of Government agencies, institutions, and organisations from across different countries (the Partners).
JNCC is the public body that advises the UK Government and devolved administrations on UK-wide and international nature conservation and is a co-founding member of the International Partnership on MPAs, Biodiversity & Climate Change.
JNCC is responsible for looking after the personal data we collect as part of the work we carry out to manage the International Partnership on MPAs, Biodiversity & Climate Change website.
We are known as the ‘data controller’. At the bottom of this privacy notice you will find our contact details and links to additional privacy notices.
Why do we collect and use information about you?
We collect and use information about you to:
- enable us to respond to questions and comments submitted via the Contact Us form.
- track usage of the website via your IP address.

Article 5(1)(d) of UK GDPR based on your consent for your non-mandatory personal data.
What information do we collect about?
JNCC will collect and use:
- name
- email address
- IP address.
How do we collect information about you?
We collect this personal information about you:
- when you submit an enquiry or comment using the contact us form
- when you use our website and necessary cookies are used to enable the website to work properly
- when you use our website and consent to the use of Google Analytics cookies.
Who your information will be shared with and why?
JNCC uses Google Analytics to assess site performance and user journeys, if accepted as cookies by a user (users have the option to decline or accept optional cookies). How long do we keep your data?
Your personal data will be kept for a maximum period of:
- For IP addresses stored in cookies: Up to 12 months from the start of a browsing session. Data will be automatically deleted at the end of this period
- For name and email addresses entered into the Contact Us form: Up to 12 months from the point at which it is entered by the user. Data will be deleted at the end of this period.
Do we transfer your personal information to any third countries or international organisations
Your personal data will not be transferred to third countries or international organisations. It will be stored on secure JNCC systems in the UK with restricted access to only those with direct responsibility for processing the data you supply.
Do we use automated decision-making processes, including profiling?
JNCC does not use automated decision making or profiling with your personal data.
Your rights
You have legal rights about the way JNCC manages and uses your personal data. You can:
- Ask for a copy of your data, free of charge
- Ask us to change any data held about you that is incorrect or incomplete
- Ask us to stop using your personal data until it is rectified.
- Ask for the use of your data to be restricted
- Ask us to erase your data (known as the right to be forgotten)
- Tell us that you have changed your mind if you have previously given consent for your information to be used for a particular purpose
- Ask us for a portable electronic copy of your data (data portability).
Not all of these rights are absolute, which means they may only apply in certain circumstances. The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has more information on your rights and you can also contact our Data Protection Manager for help.
Where we have used consent as our lawful basis you have the right to withdraw that consent and can do so by contacting our Data Protection Manager in the first instance.
